The Battle of Britain

As many of you may know in the 1940's Britain was bombed by the Germans. But, the Germans originally wanted to only bomb the RAF airfields and other military areas. But, in 1940 a Heinkel He 111 accidentally bombed a surburbian area in Southen Britain. Then, the RAF bombed the French ports and Berlin. Infuriated, Hitler retaliated on British civilians. Of course, the German Air Force was defeated by the British. (thanks to the book Bombers by Francis Crosby)
